Rayleigh B v Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Under 15's on Wed 24 Jun 2009 at 1800
Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Lost by 27 runs
Match report
yet again it was cold.
The way we lost this game was extremely disappointing. For the first 15 overs we were totally on top and at one point (they were 35-8 after 10) it looked as though the game would be over within an hour. Our opening bowlers, Adam Frost (1 for 4) and Mark williams (2 for 12) tore into their upper order and a great spell by first change Ryan Seagroatt (2 for 4) had them reeling at 27 for 6. Wickets continued to fall (Matt Campbell 1 for 13 and Dylan Jones 1 for 11) as Rayleigh embarked on a course of suicidal runs (there were 3 run outs in their innings) but a last wicket stand of 26 gave their score an aire of respectability. Despite this it was a good performance with the ball and our fielding was at times first class (especially Adam Frost, 2 r/o and James Hogan) under the direction of stand in skipper Dan Tarrant.
As seems the norm lately our innings got off to a terrible start when openers Hogan and Holmes were dismissed in the first over and we were 0 for 2. The rest of the batting was at times poor with our big guns failing to fire in persuit of a modest target. In the end it was left to our less expierienced bats, Mark Squibb, Charlie Murdoch, Ralph Holland (all of whom played sensibly) to try and get us home but in the end it was beyond them and when Matt Campbell went on 2 the game was over and Rayleigh had an unlikely but desrved victory
