Pegasus & Corringham v Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Under 13's on Sun 24 May 2009 at 0930
Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Won by 76 runs

Match report It was a glorious hot sunny day and the smell of hog roast wafted gently across the pitch, yes thats right, Frank McLeod was sunbathing!

Back to the cricket. We got off to a poor start when opener and so far Mr Dependable cameron davies was unexpectedly dismissed off the first ball of the game, and a full toss at that. Captain Jack Farrington played some stylish shots and was well supported by Asel Perera before Asel perished. A feared collapse then seemed to be on the cards when Kingley Smith (0)went quicky followed by Jack for 14 (25-4). Perry Barnes came to our rescue with a great knock of 20 playing sensibly and at times stylishly before a running mix up caused his demise. Luke Edmonds (1) soon followed and Rhys walby hung around scoring a solid 7 before being caught off a lifting ball (77-7 after 14 overs). At this point U11 draftees Mitchell McLeod and Harrison 'H' Morris were both at the crease and I would have been more than happy with a score of 90. The assembled crowd was then treated to an array of shots (5 fours)from Mitchell all of which were sensible, no hitting across the line slogs, whilst 'H' consolodated the partnership, supporting Mitchell with some excellent calls and running. These two pint sized heros took the score well past 100 before Mitchell retired on 28(he would later return late on and add another 2) Rhys Williams smashed a 4 in his score of 5 and Robert Morden hit a stylish leg glance for 4 before being given out controversially LBW for 6. The innings closed on 136 for 9 with H on 3* and Mitchell 30*.

Jack Farrington opened our reply and looked like he had had 3 shredded wheat laced with red bul as he tore into their openers with a double wicket maiden. Perry Barnes suppoerted him well at the other end and was unlucky not to strike as too was Harrison Morris, both bowled out their allotted 4 overs going for only 11 and 13 runs respectively. By this time the opponents were well behind the rate so when Mitchell McLeod came on and struck twice in his first over the contest was effectively ended. The much improved Robert Morden then bagged a brace, one of which was brilliantly caught by Reece Walby (one of 2 catches in the match). The game was over when their final batsmen was run out by cameron Davies off the last ball of the match. Well done boys!!
