Match report Weather was bright but there was a keen wind that kept the temperature rediculously cool for July.

Stand in skipper Adam Frost won the toss and put Wickford in. Some good if not spectacular bowling coupled with a good fielding performance resticted the visitors to 65 for 5 off their 20 overs.

I must admit that I was confident we would chase down this modest total. But our innings got off to a sluggish start and the opportunity of running some early byes was squandered. When openers Connor McLeod and Jack Farrington were dismissed cheaply I feared we would be skittled out for 20 or so. At 29 for 5 after 10 overs my early confidence had soon evaporated. A good partnership between Perry Barnes and Ben Morris added 23 for the sixth wicket taking us to within 14 runs of victory with 3 overs left. Ben was adjudged to have been bowled but some felt that the strong gusty wind rather than the ball was responsible for removing his bails. This signalled the familiar collapse and we lost a further two wickets without addition to the total. When Perry Barnes was well caught on 18 any real hope we had had gone. Charlie Murdoch and Cameron Davis took us to within 7 but when Charlie went going for a quick single the writing was on the wall. The last pair needed 3 to win from the last ball but it was a shot too far for Matt Campbell (who incidently felt that the last ball should have been called a wide) and we dismissed for 63 from the last ball of the 20.

We should have won this game. Our top order batsmen should have put us in a winning position but it was not to be.
