Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Lost by one run

Match report We were blessed, at last, with a sunny, if not a tad chilly Sunday morning at Mopsies Park. Belhus, our opposition, were at the ground early, eager to get the game started. Due to a mix up in communication, 9 players from bpcc turned up, so we had one sub. Skipper ross johnson tossed up, but unfortunately lost. We were put into field, perhaps a bad thing given some of our bowling performances in the past,but not TODAY!

Connor Barnes opened his spell and took one of the three wickets, Ryan Davies taking the other two. After a spirited fightback by the lower order coupled with some sloppy fielding by Basildon, Belhus rallied to a respectable score of 253-3.

We came off with a daunting task of 252 runs to win. After another cup of Loraine Barnes fantastic tea and some very nice biscuits, Dave Sharpe and I worked out the batting order, only to be told that Rhys Williams was unfit to play due to the heat of the day, so Ian Woodward was called up to the plate ,and came off the subs bench.

Harrison and Ross first pair out, with those immortal words ringing in their ears DONT GET OUT, but sometimes things don't go according to plan........

Harrison Morris getting out early, but Ross rallied the pair to score 5no. Next pair Harrison Birch and Mitchell Mcleod, performing like a well drilled batting pair, scored 12 runs - Mitchell 7no, Harrison 5no.

Next pair super sub Ian Woodward, and Connor Barnes - unfortunately Connor was bowled, and Ian was 0no, but a good performance by both batsmen.

Last pair Ryan Davies, and Charly Hudson, needing 15 runs to win, had a task on their very young shoulders, but they nearly did it........

Ryan D 1no, Charly Hudson 0no - in the end we were 1 run short scoring 251-2, this was one of the better performances by our u11, team.

Observed by head coach Chris Clarke Irons, must have inspired the team, and gave a good after game chat to the players. Thanks to Dave Sharpe for umpiring, on what turned out to be a very warm day at Mopsies Park.
