Hondon on the Hill v Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club 1st XI Sat on Sat 12 Jul 2008 at 1300
Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Lost by 4 Wkts

Match report Does it always rain in Horndon? During one of my early games (as spectator) in 2006 it poured down as Stace (65*) & Lukey Daw (88*) put on a great partnership that almost, but not quite, won us the game - it ended up drawn.

Anyway, back to today... Hassan was absent so Scott came back up to take his place. We lost the toss, were put in and made 113 all out in 48.2 overs. Tony was our top scorer with 28, Vipin made 24 and Jon 16; coincidentally they were all given out LBW, 3 of 5 decisions in our innings.

In reply, at one stage Horndon were 15-5 but some atrocious fielding let them back into it and they ended on 114 with 4 wickets remaining after 44.4 overs. The rain didn't help, it must have made bowling & fielding difficult. Fluffer did well though taking a wicket in each of his first 4 overs - and should have had 5 but for an appalling dropped catch. Jon took a great catch near the boundary, he had to turn 180 degrees & dive at full stretch.

Last week we got beat by the team at the top of the league, this week we got beat by the team at the bottom. Good for them, their first win this season.
