Showers were forecast but it was dry & cloudy with sunny spells when I arrived at the ground. Still cold for June though.

With the continued absence of the captain, Michael Gray, Brown captained for the day with Mike Blerkom remaining in the side. Kiani also had a day off with Luke Daw stepping up for him.

Warm up was different, a circuit of the field, stretching, throwing & catching - not so much time for lounging & smoking - this must be serious!

We won the toss & put Westcliff in to bat with Brown & Lewis opening the bowling. Although Brown was not conceding many runs, 4 in his first 4 overs, he was strangely ineffective in taking wickets, leaving it till his 12th, our 36th over to get his one and only wicket of the game. Mr Lewis started better with 4 maidens in his first 5 overs and a wicket in his 2nd, our 4th. Asif, on for Brown in the 19th took his first in his 2nd over too and went on to take 5 wickets for the 2nd game running. With the absence of Kiani, Vipin got another chance to bowl replacing Mr Lewis in the 22nd. He also started with a maiden, and took a wicket in his 3rd, our 26th. He also bowled the run out in the 44th over, I know it doesn't count. Westcliff were 171 for 9 in the 52nd over & declared. The umps were also heard to declare they'd not had tea often before 4.

After tea we opened with Mike & Joe who scored 11 and 21 respectively. They were succeeded by Vipin who ended on 47 not out, and Tony who was unlucky to be given out LBW on 13. Scott came in for Tony and played exceedingly well ending on 52 and leaving us needing just 13 to win. Abi turned up during his innings - maybe he spotted her watching. Stace followed Scott but still being knackered from the warm up didn't hang around and departed after 6 minutes. Danny came in for Stace by which time we only needed 12 to win which was no problem for him & Vipin and we ended comfortably at 6.44 with 5 wickets in hand.

As for the fielding, well Danny only conceded 8 byes but took 2 catches and a stumping (to add to his 4 catches last week which I forgot to mention :-(). Unfortunately, I didn't see who got the run out & forgot to ask Danny later. There were also at least 3 dropped catches with a couple that could have been caught with a bit more application. Though I expect I'd duck out too with one of those balls heading towards me...
