Match report
Viv's Report
Lovely sunny day, bit of a breeze but not too much. Got there early to find Danny & Joe practising outside the nets - they were still locked.
Nice to see a couple of them taking it seriously.
Warm up a bit different, as well as catching, they were chasing the ball, picking it up, turning & throwing it back in. I’m not sure it worked though, there was more fumbling in the field than in the back row of the cinema during a teen movie…
We won the toss & put them in. Not a bad start, usual openers each with a maiden in the 2nd over. 1st wicket didn't fall until the 9th over but Walthamstow had only got 13 runs by then. 2nd fell in the 11th for 16, 3rd in the 13th for 19 - all to Brown who, despite a late night, was having his usual good game.
Mr Lewis got his first wicket just after the hour in the 18th over and Walthamstow were 39-5 and struggling. Our Asif came on after 25 overs with the score at 68-5. It took a while but he eventually took wickets in his 11th, 12th & 13 overs. Tanvir came on for 3 overs fairly late on and took one wicket for 14 runs.
However a couple of good innings from their Asif (Bala) and Gazendan had turned things around for Walthamstow and they eventually made 183 all out in 49.5 overs. Brown, who at one stage had been on 4 wickets for 7 runs eventually ended with another 5 wicket haul for 44 runs taking his total for the season so far to 55.
In the field Danny took 3 catches, Joe took a great catch on the boundary to finally get rid of Gazendan, and Kiran & Scott took one each.
After tea, we took the field at 4.07 chasing 183. Scoring was slow, much too slow and by the time 6pm rolled around we still had 100 to get.
The players coming in later were under too much pressure and, IMNSHO, panicked into silly mistakes including 2 run outs. But what do I know?
Don't answer that. Everyone tried their best and you can't ask for more than that. Kiran top scored with 72, Scott got 25 and Danny 18.
Blah blah blah, my opinions, blah blah blah etc.
