Stanford le Hope v Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club 1st XI Sat on Sat 21 Jul 2007 at 1300
Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Won by 110 Runs

Match report Viv's Report
Stanford hadn't had much luck, not having won a game all season.
Thought they might be wanting to get this one abandoned, since 6 points are better than whatever they could expect, hopefully not. But despite the forecast, the weather was reasonably good so looked like the game was on. Given the weather we've had lately it was strange they couldn't find the covers when the rain started shortly after 12. The wicket got quite a soaking before they were eventually found at the back of the shed...

We started the game at 1.10, batting first having lost the toss so I was getting my wish to see more of our batting. Didn't do too badly given the state of the wicket. Tanvir, who had missed the home game due to a broken finger, top scored with 73 not out. Scott & Lee (Stace) also did well with 36 and 34 respectively. What was not good was the 2 silly run outs early on. But, apparently, the player that got them had a 'good arm'. We declared on 204-6 after 48 overs.

In reply Stanford were all out for 94 after 34 overs. Asif bowled well again - he likes playing against this team - and ended with 6 wickets for 19 runs. Brown & Mr Lewis also did well Brown taking 3 wickets & Mr Lewis 1 for not many runs - obviously, given Stanford's final score.
They were helped by some good fielding from Joe with 2 catches, Michael & Danny with 1 catch each 1. Danny also got 1 stumping, in retaliation for his own perhaps. Mike (Blerkom) didn't get any catches this week but I did notice some good stops from him, which saved runs. These, obviously, happened right in front of the scorer's box otherwise they would probably have passed me by. Apparently though, there were also more dropped catches that should have been caught. But I have some sympathy with those - those balls are hard, after all...

And that was that, back to Basildon relatively early again. Next week will be a much harder game.

I hope I haven't forgotten anything, this was written without my book which I had to leave at the Club in case I was at Arsenal next week.
But I've come to my senses and I'll be there, if only to stop the 2nd team scorer nicking my job. Apparently, he does a much better weather report than me. Probably doesn't invent runs for the opposition either.
Expect he could do a better job of this match report too. Maybe I should retire :-(. But I'm brushing up on my weather report skills this week; I'm afraid there's no hope of a decent match report from me though!

As usual, the opinions expressed in this report are mine only, and nothing to do with Basildon & Pitsea CC.
