A beautiful day by the sea, Leigh on Sea away. One of our opening bowlers had stayed overnight in London so was expected late, with a hangover. But at least he turned up ahead of 2 of the others who finally strolled up about 5 minutes before we were due on the field.
Luckily, it didn't affect the outcome of the game.

We won the toss & put Leigh on Sea in to bat. Neither of our opening bowlers got a maiden in the first over this week but Brown made up for it by taking the wicket of their opener with his 5th ball before his first maiden in his second over. Mr Lewis replied with a wicket maiden in his second over. Not bad considering the state he was in. Asif also waited for his second over for his first maiden & wicket and ended up with 4-2-2-2. I suppose though, that the best of our bowlers was Brown with 17-6-25-7. The only fielding of note was Danny with 2 stumpings & a good catch from Tanvir - though it's a team game and LOS were kept down to 56 runs, all out in 33 overs.

As it was too early for tea the umps said we'd go in at 3, bat till 4 and have tea then...

In reply we didn't start too well with wickets falling in the 2nd, 3rd & 4th overs giving Leigh on Sea a glimmer of hope. But we were only kidding and it was all over in 11 overs, Tanvir ending it with a couple of fours - 5 consecutive ones unless I missed a dot ball in there somewhere, always a possibility. He ended on 23 not out & Joe on 17 not out. Would have been good to have seen how many they could have got but that'll have to wait for another week.

So in for tea at 3.45 then all back to Basildon to watch the 2s and have a few beers. Good day.

And thanks to Scott for explaining how to work out the averages - they didn't cover that on the scorer's course, unless it was one of the nights I missed.
