Match report For once, a rain free day, and the great and good of Basildon & Pitsea converge on the pretty little ground of North Stifford, home of Belhus CC, for only out second league fixture of the season.

Skipper Anthony Ayres lost the toss, and so it would be that B&P would bat first, and set about their task in a sensible manner, picking up singles and ensuring the scoreboard ticked over. Top scorers for B&P were Frank Farrington with 28no, and Mark Broadhurst, who had a smile wider than the Thames as he walked off with 25no. Contributions from Stevie Wyatt (11no) and Ben "you sure you want to bat me at no 5" Thompson with 11no; the pair of them running a succession of quick singles to keep the run rate healthy. At the end of the innings, a respectable 115 was on the board, for the loss of only 2 wickets.

A quick turnaround was instigated, as there was the threat of a large dark cloud looming, and B&P took to the field.

The major threat from Belhus was their no.5 bat; who scored an impressive 26no, however contributions throughout the order kept the game on a knife edge. Kieran Barbero snaffled 3 wickets with some inswing which left the batsmen playing around them, and Wyatt took the plaudits with 2 wickets in 2 balls; a bowled and then a stumped where the batsman forgot he had to have at least one part of him in the crease. A blocked out 3rd ball denied the hatrick.

Belhus finished their 20 overs on 97 for the loss of 7 wickets, and so B&P get back into winning ways; the last ball of the game being bowled just as a light shower started, highlighting the frustrations of the season thus far.....
