Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Under 13's v Pegasus & Corringham on Sun 17 Jun 2012 at 09:30
Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Lost by 3 runs
Match report
Father's Day 2012, and the great and good of Basildon & Pitsea's arose from their slumber to see a miraculous sight, a large yellow circular thing in the sky; yes the sun had managed to show it's face and for once their would be a game of cricket.
Today's fixture was the re-arranged game versus Pegasus & Corringham, being played at The Home of Cricket as our opponents did not have a pitch available at their ground. Preperations for the game were not 100% according to plan, however with the warm up done, and skipper Ryan Davies sending our opponents into bat first, we were under way.
B&P stuck to the fielding task well; limiting the opportunities to score runs and frustrating the opponents. The bowling was tight, and the pressure around the wicket intense for the Pegasus batsmen, who struggled to get out of first gear. At the end of their alloted overs, they had amassed 82 for the loss of 7 wickets, with the pick of the bowlers being Harry Davie, with figures of 4-1-4-3.
After a sumptious feast of anything that Tesco could provide, the B&P batsmen started the chase; and were off to a flyer; after 9 overs there was not a dent on the wickets column, however 58 runs had been plundered by the openers and a quick result looked on the cards. However, a mix up led to Harrison Birch being run out for 12, and shortly afterwards Mitchell McLeod retired on 27 (he would resume later), which upset the rythym of the innings. After this, the batsmen came and went, meanwhile the run rate slowed down to 1 or 2 per over as B&P struggled to get going again.
And so, the game was lost by 3 runs in the end, as B&P could only muster 79 off 20 overs, McLeod coming back in with 4 balls to face and having to try and score 7 runs to win. He mustered another 3 to finish on 30.
Net week, weather permitting, we face Orsett.
