SOSEMT v Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Under 13's on Sun 22 May 2011 at 9:30am
Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
A blustery morning saw the boys from Basildon & Pitsea try to write their names into the B&P history books, and progress beyond the second round of the Bradford Cup for the first time since records can be remembered.
Skipper Mitchell McLeod won the toss, and expertly chose to take his trusty lions to the field, with the brief that we knew SOSEMT could score runs, but we could bowl and field and keep them quiet. And quiet we did; bowling tight and with dogged & determined fielding, our opponents who averaged over 120 an innings before coming up against the might of messrs Harrison Morris and Frank Farrington, who bagged 3 wickets apiece; the other wickets coming from Connor Barnes and a run out from Ben Thompson (via the grateful keeper's hands; the opponents were kept to a measly 97 for 8 off of the 20 overs.
Tea taken in the splendid refurbished pavillion in Southchurch Park, and it was B&P's turn to bat. A maiden over was the start, and then the floodgates opened. Regan Mead plundered 30 in no time, taking his retirement and walking off the field to rapturous applause as the run rate shot up towards 8 an over. Morris assisted in keeping the run rate going, as did young Farrington and McLeod, as the run rate continued along at just under 8 an over. By the time Harrison Birch came out to bat, the game was to bat conservatively, and just pick off the winning runs at around 1.5 an over. Birch was desperately unlucky to be bowled shortly after, however Anthony Ayres and Ryan Davies were on hand to take B&P over the winning line with 5.4 overs to spare.
For the boys the next challenge is Benfleet at the home of cricket, next Sunday. We shall all be awaiting the draw for the next round......
