Match report A rainswept Mopsies saw the return to winning ways for Basildon & Pitsea's Under 13's, with a convincing win over a fair Horndon side.

Skipper for the day Nathan Hubble won the toss, and chose to field, and B&P's attack kept Horndon industrious in looking for runs; however as the rain continued to fall, and the ball and top got greasy, the runs started to flow.

Horndon's opener retired on 25, and the run rate peaked at over 5 an over around the halfway mark in the innings, however B&P fought doggedly to not only bring the run rate back down, but to also grab some wickets. Harry Davie baggd a wicket as the faintest of nicks off the bat fell into Hubble's hands, shortly followed by a run out from Harrison Birch, when there wasn't a run in the first place. A wicket from Jack Green (bowled) slowed Horndon some more, and by the end of the 20 overs B&P were set a target of 92 to win.

After tea, B&P's batmen took to the field, and set about the Horndon bowling with a run rate of 5 an over. Regan Mead raced to another retirement; a fine innings of 28 led to raptuous applause from the patio. The rate continued over 5 an over, and with Anthony Ayres the only casualty of a straight ball, Sonny Downes and Jack Green saw B&P home with 20 and 13 respectively, the winning run coming in the 16th over.

The boys are back in winning ways; however with Wickford and Orsett coming up in the next couple of weeks the hard work is only just beginning.....
