Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Under 15's v Rayleigh B on Mon 18 May 2009 at 1800
Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Won by 9 runs

Match report Another freezing cold game!

The closeness of the score did not reflect B&P dominance of this game. We opened our innings well with Daniel Tarrant hitting some succulent shots but when Adam Frost was unluckily out first ball (the ball seemed to get stuck in the pitch and ballooned up off his bat)we were 10-1. In came Connor McLeod and was soon setting about the oppositions bowling. The pair looked comfortable when Tarrant spooned one to mid wicket (21-2). Dylan Jones and Connor McLeod scored steadily before McLeod was bowled off his legs and we were 45-3 at the mid point of our innings. A quickfire 10 from Dylan Jones ended when he was run out but James Hogan, assisted by Ralph Holland carried on the good work. Ralph lost his wicket trying to up the rate (caught at mid off) and Ryan Seagroatt was unlucky to be the victim of a running mix up and was run out without troubling the scorers. Hogan was joined by skipper Dean Parkinson and together added 40 for the 7th wicket. When Hogan went in the last over he had reached a career best 20 and with Deano at the wicket for the last over a score in excess of 100 seemed inevitable. Debutant Mark Squibb came in for the last couple of balls but did not manage to get on strike. Amazingly we failed to score any runs off the last over and Parkinson perished on 22 going for a big shot. 98-8 after 20.

Parkinson then opended the bowling with his usual pace which seemed to unsettle the batsmen. It was Connor McLeod who struck first in the second over, bowling their opener. A period of stability followed before Ryan Seagroat struck thanks to a fine catch in the covers by Mark Squibb. Mark Williams bowled his usual line and length and was rewarded with a wicket in his third over. After 10 overs Rayleigh were only just off the pace at 47-4. Just before Matt Campbell came onto bowl he was hit on the knee in the act of fielding a ball struck into the covers. Clearly upset he managed to bowl a good over and was unlucky not to get a wicket with his first ball but then he had to go off for treatment. Adam Frost replaced him and bowled a good accurate spell and deservedly took a wicket. With the light fading fast and thanks to some good bowling and fielding we gradually got back on top and Rayleigh never looked like scoring the 22 runs needed off the last over, bowled in the dark by Deano. Well done lads a solid victory.
