Orsett v Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Under 13's on Sun 04 Sep 2011 at TBC
Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Lost by 1 run

Match report And so to the final game, and the mighty wariors of Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club looked to replicate the feats of the Adult 1st XI from the day before, and before that look back to 1992 to see if they could win the league.

In our opponents were Orsett; a formidable unit who had swept all teams ahead of them comfortably, including ourselves a month or so back, when it took them just under 13 overs to brush us aside. This was a team that didn't worry about rain, as their semi final had taken under an hour.

However, Skipper Mitchell McLeod won the toss, and sent Orsett into bat, and the B&P boys set about the task of stopping this juggernaut. And set about it they did; ferocious in the field; diving, blocking with any part of the body as the bowlers plugged away at the Orsett guard. The rate was not escaping B&P, but we had to wait until the 7th over for a breakthrough; Jack Green bowling the no. 2 with the score on 27, and with the rate not flying away, the next wicket came in the 10th; Harry Davie bagging the no 4. bat when the ball kept low. This came quickly afterthe no. 1 bat had retired, and so the battign rythym was halted again. More wickets followed; Ryan Davies trapping the no 5. LBW, and Green coming back to oust the no. 6 bowled. The runs dried somewhat for Orsett, and panick set in, run outs started to take place, as they scrambled for extra runs, with Harrison Birch, Green and McLeod getting the vital throw into the stumps. Birch bagged a wicket himself in the 19th; skittling the no. 8 for 0, and in the 20th Harrison Morris bowled the no. 11 out with the last ball to leave Orsett 88 for 9, with only 6 runs coming in the last 5 overs.

After drinks B&P started their innings. We were a wicket down at the end of the first over; Regan Mead bowled for 4, and also 4 short of 200 for the season. However, the rate was strong; runs plundered from all parts of the ground, and by the time McCleod was out in the 5th over, B&P had scored 25. In the 8th over, Sonny Downes fell for 8, however the rate was still strong, and the Orsett manager was worried. In the 9th Morris succumbed, caught and bowled, but the runs still kept on being scored, and B&P were not out of this. Hubble was next to fall, run out and then Anthony Ayres, caught from a riser, and now Orsett looked in the ascendancy. Tom Hardy went for 0, and then Green for 11, and the Orsett boys thought they had it in the bag. Harry Davie was caught for 2, leaving B&P needing 22 off 3 overs with last man standing.

Step to the plate Harrison Birch and Ryan Davies. 8 runs came from the first over together, as they tried to steer B&P to the line. The next over only 3 runs, including a dropped catch. The Orsett bowler, needed nerves of steel for this last over, and the first ball was a dot. The second, and Birch sent it into the trees for 6. The third was a dot, the fourth a wide which they run to make it 3 to win from 3 balls. The next ball was a dot, and was the next, meaning B&P needed a 3 runs of the extra ball for the win. Only a single could be scored, and so B&P came up 1 run short, and a very relieved Orsett manager could not sing the praises of the B&P boys any more than he did.

And so, the end of the season; a season when the B&P U13 boys not only got into the county stages of the Bradford Cup for the first time ever, but also got into the final of the U13 league for the first time in 20 years.

The club, the coaches and the managers have been spell bound by the exploits of a wonderful set of lads for the 2011 U13 team; who can only go on to turn into fabulous players for the club in the future. Plus there is the little matter of the "dream team" being back together for the 2013 U15 season.......

Many thanks to all the families and volunteers for all your support during the season; without you guys we would not be able to do what we do.

Special thanks to the players; look back on this season and be proud of what you guys have achieved. You have put this little club back on the map of youth cricket in this area.
