Match report And so it was to be a blustery May morning when the U13's 100% record for the season would grind to a halt, to a Benfleet team who outplayed their B&P counterparts in every department.

Young Mitchell McLeod won the toss, and we elected to field; the skipper tossing the new nut to Harrison Birch for the first over. One ball in, things looked promising; the Benfleet opener disptached hit wicket, trying to work a leg side opening before spinning around and clipping his own stumps. However, after this early breakthrough, the B&P attack toiled, and it wasn't until the 7th over that B&P got another wicket; Ryan Davies catching off his own bowling; however by this time Benfleet, through a combination of good batting by their number 3, and a numbr of wides had pushed the run rate up to over 6 an over.

The next over brought another wicket, with a direct hit from Mark Broadhurst for a run out, however B&P continued to struggle with the windy conditions, and the wide count continued to rise. By the end of the Benfleet innings, 42 extras has been conceded, and Benfleet had a good score of 113 in the bag.

After tea, B&P set about the reply, however Benfleet were instantly bowling tighter than the hosts, and in the second over Harrison Morris was trapped LBW, and B&P were still to register a run. The runs had deserted the B&P side, and when Anthony Ayres fell for just 1, the run rate was only 4 an over; which by the end was close to the rate for the whole innings.

Brief respite was shown by Harrison Birch, scoring a sumptious 4 in his top scoring innings for B&P with 9. Sonny Downes batted well for a workman-like 8, however by this time the writing was on the wall; B&P required over 8 an over and the question was now how long would B&P bat for.

The innings finished in the last over, with 3 balls remaining Benfleet claimed the win, and B&P were left wondering what might have been. Next up is a cup match against Hutton.
