Stanford le Hope v Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Under 13's on Sun 15 May 2011 at 10.00am
Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Won by 4 runs

Match report A nail biting edge of the seat drama unfolded against the backdrop of the River Thames this morning, as Basildon & Pitsea continued their fine form against a fair challenge in the form of Stanford-le-Hope.

Put into bat first, B&P got off to a rocky start, with our warriors from last week Regan Mead and Harrison Morris falling in the early overs; however a dogged innings by Ryan Davies, batting conservatively through to a not out of 11 allowed the guys at the other end to keep the scorers busy, with skipper Mitchell McLeod rattling a fairly quick 21. At the end of the allotted overs, B&P were 81-6; and the talk at tea was to ensure the fielding limited the hosts to under the run rate.

And so, after juice and biscuits, we were under way; and where our mighty batsmen were to steer us home last week, it would be the bowlers that would do the job this time round. With the third ball, a wicket; Harrison Birch bowling their opener for a duck. The second over from Harrison Morris kept the score low, and in the third, another wicket; Morris taking a catch from Birch’s bowling. This brought in Stanford’s star batsman; and he plundered 25 in a relatively short space of time, and at the half way stage Stanford were above the run rate comfortably.

However, B&P do not know how to be beaten; and the fight back was on. Wickets continued to tumble; Birch grabbing another, Ryan Davies grabbing one and the skipper picking up one too. This coupled with a run out, left us with a mouthwatering prospect of Stanford requiring 5 runs to secure victory off of the last over.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man; and skipper McLeod tossed the ball to Harrison Morris for the last over. The first ball sailed through into the keepers hands for a dot, the second a squirreled single to keep in touch with the required rate. Then Morris took to the stage; the next ball clean bowling their number 10, walking back with everyone’s favourite bathroom accessory. The number 11 took to the crease, marked his guard, and 20 seconds later was joining the number 10, as Morris despatched him with another clean bowled.

This allowed the retiree from earlier in the innings back to the crease, and his earlier plundering had the B&P faithful wondering if he could grab the required runs in the last two balls. However it was not to be; Harrison Morris taking his third in a many balls, as the stumps rattled for the final time, and Stanford were all out for 77, with a ball to spare.

So, another win, and with a hat-trick in the bag for Harrison Morris the B&P march on to the next game; the second round of the cup against SOSEMKT.
