Basildon & Pitsea Cricket Club Lost 32 runs

Match report A chilly but nonetheless dry and pleasant spring morning saw the u13's opening match in this years campaign, away to OSSCC in th u13 cup.

B&PCC lost the toss and the home side decided to bat which I must admit I was pleased about as we were fielding a young inexpierienced side and i was worried that we could be 'blown away' if things did not go our way.

Skipper Jack Farrington opened the bowling with a steady over then in the next Yash Patel nipped out their opener and we were off! More steady overs followed as Perry Barnes struck leaving them 6-2. Then skipper Jack experimented with the bowlers (on my instructions) as I wanted to see what they were capable of. All did okay (especially Harrison Morris who took a wicket)For most of the boys this was their first taste of bowling in a match situation. Many wides were bowled which allowed OSSCC to run up a score of 115-4 off their allotted 20 overs.

Our innings got off to a terrible start when Yash and Perry were dismissed off successive balls in the first over , enter Cameron Davies. When Jack Farrington went for 5 I thought that our innings would be over inside 5 overs but Cameron played good sensible cricket, laced with some superb shots to post an unbeaten 27, assisted in part by Andrew Spinks-Dear and Rhys Williams.

We managed to bat out the 20 overs falling 32 runs short. Despite this defeat both myself and Graham Davies saw alot of potential in this young team and will be working on the fundamentals again this week.
